In this week’s best new music round-up we welcome the return of Run the Jewels, Le Tigre, Pussy Riot, Sleigh Bells and a supergroup that isn’t shit because Corin Tucker’s in it.

Shit also gets political, so watch out for my flaming hot takes on the latest current eventsĀ šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

Just to reiterate, those weren’t my flaming hot takes, they were just emojis. Which, by the way, I’ve only just found out can be used in our posts SO WATCH OUT šŸ’„

Run the Jewels – Talk to Me

Run the JewelsĀ are back. They neverĀ really go away for long, but even in those short stretches where El-P and Killer Mike aren’t answering the musical question “what’s poppin?” with ferociously entertaining fireballs of rap, it feels like I’m just tapping my watch and pretending to like music by bands who aren’t RTJ.

I think I’ve just painted a very close-minded, desperate portrait of myself there. BUT HEY LOOK WHAT’S POPPIN>>>>>>>

Filthy Friends – Despierta

Filthy Friends are a supergroup, but before you run away, this supergroup has genuinely wonderful people in it, including our number #1 musical hero Corin Tucker from Sleater-Kinney. It also has the scourge of flight attendants everywhere, Pete Buck from R.E.M. The other people in the band are calledĀ Scott McCaughey, Bill Rieflin, and Kurt Bloch, and they’re probably famous too. ‘Despierta’ is an anti-Trump song, and I suppose now is a good time for Methods Unsound to finally just come right out and say that we think Trump is a wrong’un too. I know. Powerful political discourse. šŸ”„

Le Tigre – Iā€™m With Her

And holy shit Le Tigre are back too!!! You can say one thing about the US election and the rise (and hopeful dismemberment) of Donald Trump – at least it’s brought some amazing bands back to life. ‘I’m With Her’Ā is Le Tigre’s tribute to Hilary Clinton, just in case you had ANY DOUBT which way Le Tigre would be voting in November.Ā And I suppose now is another good time for Methods Unsound to just come right out and say we also think Hilary Clinton would be the best choice for US president too.

Holy heck, I’ll have to turn off the comments for this article. I can only imagine the political fires that will be stoked below while I’m out getting a sandwich. šŸ”„šŸž

Pussy Riot – Straight Outta Vagina & Organs

Having rightfully upset Russian presidents both real and fictional, Pussy Riot are back with two brand new videos. The first is ‘Straight Outta Vagina’, produced by Dave Sitek, and featuringĀ Desi Mo and Leikeli47. It is quite possibly the best thing to happen in this shitty, jerk-filled year…

And the second video is ‘Organs’, which features Nadya Tolokonnikova bathing in a tub filled with blood and rubber duckies. Dave Sitek also produced this one too, in a vain attempt to make up for the fact he once spent time in a studio with Beady Eye.

Blood Orange – I Know

Dev Hynes’ latest single ‘I Know’ is taken from his excellent album Freetown Sound. In this self-directed video, Hynes dances around a studio withĀ ballerina Maria Kochetkova. He’s already aĀ superb singer, songwriter, music video director and producer, AS IF he can also danc… oh he’s quite good. Fuck’s sake.

Glass Candy – Halloween

I wonder if Johnny Jewel gets confused about which songs belong to which of the many emotionally distant synthpop bands he’s a member of. This track’s by Glass Candy, not Chromatics or Symmetry, just in case he needs reminding. ‘Halloween’ was also originally released in 2011, but Jewel’s only just gotten around to making a video for it. But that’s fair enough, Halloween only comes around every four years. Speaking of which, don’t forget this October 31st is the only time when it’s socially acceptable to propose marriage to a ghost.

S U R V I V E – Copter

Here’s S U R V I V E’s video to their latest single ‘Copter’ taken from RR7349, an album title I’m surprised I can remember without having to look up again, being as I can barely remember my own passwordĀ for this website. Oh and something something Stranger Things etc.

Sleigh Bells – I Can Only Stare

I went off Sleigh Bells for a while back there, but hey… this new one’s a cracker. It’s as early 90s pop as Madonna’s cone-shaped bra, and just asĀ eye-poking. šŸ¦šŸ¦

I don’t know what any of that last sentence means, but it felt funny as I wrote it and I HAVE A DEADLINE DAMMIT.

Weaves – Shithole

Weaves are fucking rad. Here’s their new video for ‘Shithole’ taken from their self-titled debut album which is, as expected, fucking rad. The titular shithole isn’t actually named in the song, so I guess it’s probably a metaphor. šŸ’©

That’s it for this week. There’s no more music. You’ve used it all up.

For more brand new music check out our latestĀ round-up featuringĀ new songs by Kid Cudi, Japandroids and Clipping.
