London Food News: National Burger Day, Meatopia & Bottomless craft beer

12 August, 2016 — by Toni Ratcliff0

Sooo…. the last time I wrote one of these London food news round-ups I mentioned an upcoming pizza festival that I thought sounded interesting but turned out to be total dogshit.

Sorry about that.

I feel I like I need to make it up to you this week, so I’ve made this list an absolute banger, filled wall-to-wall with stuff that will definitely be shit-hot. I promise!

National Burger Day Party 2016 at Hawker House

Everyone knows that I freaking love burgers. And after we ditched the shit-show that was the pizza festival a few weeks back we went to Hawker House instead and had a bloody great time! So I am very excited that for this year’s National Burger Day a party is being held at Hawker House on Thursday 25th August, featuring a line up of some of the best burger joints in London all serving up delicious, meaty…. uh, burgers. Expect to see Bleecker St.Burger and Beyond vs. Burger Gang, Dip & FlipHonest BurgersLe Bun, Lucky Chip and Smokestak. I CAN’T WAIT!! Tickets cost £17.30 each and last time I looked there were still a few available so get your skates on.

Also, here’s our handy guide to the eight best street foods to eat at Street Feast Hawker House.

MeatLiquor does brunch… in London!

You may remember a few weeks ago I mentioned that MeatLiquor had announced they were going to start serving brunch in Bristol? And I was pretty sure they would bring it to London soon? Well the wait is over my friends! Meatliquor brunch officially landed at their N1 Islington branch on Saturday 6th August. They will be serving up the usual breakfasty treats such as bacon, eggs, pancakes and maple syrup as well as a Meatliquor breakfast burger. Fuck yeah! Brunch will be served between 10am and 1pm every Saturday and Sunday in the N1 branch only for now. We’re going down this weekend so we’ll report back on it as soon as we can.

Meatopia 2016

Doing exactly what it says on the tin, Meatopia is a food festival dedicated purely to meat. And lots of it. Back for the fourth year in a row Meatopia is organised by Richard Turner from the invincible Hawskmoor and brings together serious chefs and meat connoisseurs from across London and the globe to pay homage to all things meat. It’s a stellar line up of chefs from swanky places like Duck & Waffle and Roka down to awesome burger joints like Patty & Bun and Honest Burger. They promise meat that is ethically sourced, only the best cuts and absolutely everything will be cooked over real fire. Meatopia runs from 2nd-4th September 2016 at Tobacco Dock, Wapping and tickets cost upwards of £23.85.

First Bottomless Craft Beer Brunch!

We love craft beer over here at Methods Unsound HQ and we’re not so keen on Prosecco or Mimosas so we were pretty happy to hear that All Star Lanes (yes, the bowling people) were launching London’s first bottomless craft beer brunch this month. At last! A special menu has been created to perfectly pair brunch options with beer buddies to bring out the best possible flavours. They’ve even got a bespoke Brooklyn Lager hoptail called Brooklyn Breakfast. Sounds good, huh? Bottomless craft beer will set you back £19 for 2 hours plus the cost of your food and is available every Saturday and Sunday (12pm-4pm) in all All Star Lanes locations from the 27th August 2016.

Oh good, a Naked Bar is opening in London

Ok, so this last one is ridiculous and probably goes against my promise to only include good things this week, but I had to include it as it was too fucking stupid not to. So apparently some bright spark thought it would be a good idea to open a naked bar, on a rooftop, opposite Big Ben. If it sounds fucking dumb that’s because it’s to promote NOW TV, so it is. NOW TV say they will be giving people the ‘freedom to choose your TV and broadband without being tied down’. And from there the thought-process went to ‘naked bar’? It all sounds like bollocks to me but if you want to go and get TV sold to you then you need to email comboterrace@taylorherring.com and let them know. Good luck with that.
